This little dude is named Darryl.

Darryl came to the Chilliwack SPCA as a owner surrender and is looking for another rat buddy to spend his time with.  Rats are very social animals with people and especially other rats and need the company of at least one other rat as they use high frequency sounds to communicate with each other, these are sounds that humans are not able to hear and don’t enjoy being alone.

Darryl is approximately one year old and is very friendly, gentle and playful.  Rats have a lot of great qualities and one of them is how smart they are.  They can learn to sit up, fetch, jump through a hoop, come when called, and even walk on a tight rope. Domesticated rats like being exceptionally clean and are constantly grooming themselves and each other and rarely need to be bathed since they keep themselves exceptionally clean.

Like other small animals, rats also enjoy playtime outside of their cages and can engage in a wide variety of activities like cuddling or running mazes. Be sure that any time outside of the cage is supervised and the area they are in is rat-proofed as rats will chew on anything in their vicinity.

If you’d like to adopt Darryl, visit the adoption page on the Chilliwack SPCA’s website.
