Chilliwack:  RCMP officers together with Law Enforcement personnel, and Special Olympics BC athletes in the community are approaching the starting line for this year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics BC (LETR) virtual run taking place across the Lower Mainland from June 1 to 7, 2020.

In past year’s law enforcement officers come together in their communities to raise funds and awareness.  This year the participants will not be running and walking together to make their individual kilometres count for this cause.

During the Torch Run week, participants will run and walk as many times as they can, while maintaining physical distancing.  Participants will log their kilometers and fund raising totals on line, working together to reach the event’s fundraising target of $30,000 and look to cover a combined distance of 3,000 kilometres.

Since 1980, Special Olympics BC has provided high-quality, year round sports programs for athletes around the province with the goal of providing individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunities to enrich their lives and celebrate personal achievement through positive sport experiences.

“We are proud to support Special Olympics and the athletes from our community,” says Sergeant Krista Vrolyk of the UFVRD.  “The Special Olympics athletes that take part in events are truly inspiring and give so much back to us who participate.”
