FRASER VALLEY BANDITS SIGN TEAM CANADA ALUMNUS RANSFORD BREMPONG AND LSU SHREVEPORT ALUMNUS JAMAL RAY, RELEASE DALLIN BACHYNSKI AND OTAS IYEKEKPOLOR

ABBOTSFORD, BC, June 13, 2019 – The Fraser Valley Bandits announced Thursday that the team has signed Team Canada and Western Carolina University (WCU) alumnus Ransford Brempong and Louisiana State University (LSU) Shreveport alumnus Jamal Ray.

Brempong and Ray will both make their Bandits debuts at Abbotsford Centre against the visiting Saskatchewan Rattlers tonight.

Brempong played more than eight years with Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team. Over the course of a decorated professional career, Brempong played six seasons in Germany and the Netherlands, twice being named an All-Star in Holland, including a nod as Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 after leading the Dutch league in blocks and rebounds. Brempong currently sits as the Southern Conference’s all-time leader in blocked shots after averaging 7.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game over the course of five seasons at WCU.

Ray recently completed a season of professional basketball in Indonesia with Prawira Bandung, where he averaged 15.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2 assists per game.

In a corresponding roster move, the team announced that it has released centre Dallin Bachynski and forward Otas Iyekekpolor. The Bandits’ front office and coaching staff would like to thank Bachynski and Iyekekpolor for their contributions to the organization, the Fraser Valley community, and would like to wish them well in their future endeavours.

The Bandits play tonight at Abbotsford Centre against the Saskatchewan Rattlers. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. for an early showing of the NBA Finals inside the venue on the main screen. The Bandits’ pre-game plaza party, originally scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start, has been cancelled to allow for fans to watch the start of Game 6 of the NBA Finals. The broadcast is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Tip-off of the Bandits versus the Rattlers will proceed as scheduled at 7 p.m.

After tonight, the Bandits travel to Guelph to take on the Guelph Nighthawks at the Sleeman Centre on Saturday, June 15.
