abbotsford soccerIt hasn’t been an overwhelming swell, but interest in girls soccer in Abbotsford has spiked a little in the wake of the women’s world cup.

Abbotsford soccer general manager Dan Village says having a local connection to Canada’s team helps.

“Having Sophie Schmidt as one of our alumni here in the club, certainly that generated some interest and we’ve seen a little bit of improvement in the girls registration.”

Village says a lot of the people who signed up for spring soccer are also going in for the fall season, so it looks like the buzz will continue.

He some of the girls and coaches had a chance to check out some games in Vancouver, and says from what he heard the atmosphere was unreal.
