clarkPremier Christy Clark has come under fire a couple of times recently over tweets seen by some as inappropriate, one on Good Friday and one in the wake of the Yoga Day controversy.

UFV political science professor Hamish Telford says overall really it’s pretty minor news and shouldn’t affect her politically very much.

“It’s not like the scandals that plagued her just before the last election with the ethnic outreach strategy and she survived that. I think in part these gaffes are making bigger news than they would otherwise simply because there’s a lack of other stuff going on.”

Having said that, Telford says sometimes Clark should think twice before she tweets.

“The Premier is very quick witted and a quick wit can be great, but it can also get you into trouble. Your quip is out before you’ve really thought it through. Perhaps she needs to hold her tongue a little more in check.”

Overall Telford gives Clark a “steady” grade for her midterm report, saying there haven’t been many successes but  no major failures either.

He says simply balancing the budget and striking labor deals is something that’s expected from government, and that  the lack of big success stories, including limited tangible news on the LNG front, is something that could hurt her going forward.
