mcbarge1A developer is once again looking at the possibility of bringing the McBarge to Mission.

Mayor Randy Hawes says the floating vessel that was built for Expo 86 would become a restaurant, but says other parts of the original proposal have been scrapped.

“I know First Nations had some very big concerns about a float plain terminus there. But (developer Howard Meakin) had been talking to Horizon Air who have now located their terminus in Pitt Meadows. So that’s off the table.”

Meakin was looking to build in Maple Ridge but couldn’t get the land, and Hawes says he’s once again looking to see if he can get the project approved for the Mission waterfront.

Hawes met with Meakin on Wednesday about revisiting the Mission location, but before anything happens it would need to come before council and would also need approval from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.
