20150522_133454[1]Construction is underway for a 50 bed mental health housing and care facility on Marshall road, replacing the 30 bed Sunrise facility that was closed three years ago.

It’s going to be run by the MPA society, a non profit group founded by people who have suffered from mental illness, and operational director Nick Blackman says it’s going to be a recovery model using psychosocial rehabilitation.

“We really believe that recovery from mental illness is possible through autonomy, self direction, and creating an environment of empowerment where the people we support have as much say into developing and planning their goals as possible.”

Fraser Health is chipping in 2.5 million dollars per year for operating costs.

Construction is scheduled to be complete by next summer.
