epwt-01-engAfter recent disasters like the earthquake in Nepal, and to a lesser degree massive fires at the Squamish docks and Vancouver port, this week’s Emergency Preparedness Week is certainly timely.
Chilliwack emergency program coordinator Jim MacDonald says people need to think about what they need to do to look after themselves for at least 72 hours.

“Just go a little bit further in your planning and think about how you might cope without electricity or running water, and also how you might get in touch with family or friends in the event of a large disaster.”

MacDonald says if nothing else you should make sure you always have a decent supply of bottled water on hand.

Sto:lo and Tzeachten first nations along with first responders and search and rescue are holding an event Saturday May 9th from 10 till 2.
