rcmpFollowing the recent string of robberies in and around Chilliwack a number of people have posted to various facebook pages related to Chilliwack, saying they feel crime in the community is getting out of control.

Chilliwack RCMP superintendent Deanne Burleigh says regardless of the perception of crime in the community, the reality is police are not getting more calls for service than in previous years.

“I can confirm 100% that our violent crime statistics are down. Our ten year trend is down just under 40%. As far as property crime, mischief, those types of things, we have had slight increases in the first part of this year.”

Burleigh says she wants people to respond to the online community survey so that police can make a strategy based on what people feel are the greatest priorities.

There is still one week to fill out the survey, it’s available here
