Chilliwack ChiefsAlthough the Chilliwack Chiefs weren’t able to make it through the round robin BCHL semi finals, the team did manage to come away from the season with a divisional championship banner.

Coach Jason Tatarnic says all things considered he considers the season a success.

“We weren’t too sure what we were going to have. We knew that we had some talent, we weren’t sure how they were going to gel. So I have to admit I’m pretty happy how things came together for our hockey team. They provided an exciting brand of hockey for our fans and we had a long streak in the playoffs, although it ended too early for me and the players.”

Coach Jason Tatarnic says now that his season is done, he can say that he and the organization are not fans of the round robin format, and will say so at the league meetings.

“Hopefully they come up with a better solution for next year and we’ll have to have some discussions on what the best options are, and hopefully it gets changed. It’s a tough way to have your season end. You win your division and then all of a sudden you’re thrown into a round robin. So it’s different, I understand the economics behind it, but there has to be a better solution.”

Tatarnic says they will be losing a number of players to graduation and college, so they will need to do a bit of rebuilding for next season.
