cyclone taylor cupFor the first time ever Mission will host the Cyclone Taylor Cup, the provincial Junior B hockey championship.

Mission City Outlaws coach Brad Veitch says hosting the tournament is part of a rebirth the franchise has undergone since getting new ownership a couple of years ago.

“We just thought that taking on the Cyclone Taylor Cup this year would be a good way to get the community involved and get some support and backing for the team, not only during the Cyclone Taylor cup but also going forward.”

The Outlaws had their best ever season, managing a winning regular season record and getting their first ever playoff series victory.

They made it all the way to the finals before losing to the North Vancouver Wolfpack but are in the tournament as host team.

They’ll be joined by the Kimberley Dynamiters, and Campbell River Storm.

Veitch says that playoff run generated a lot of excitement, which will hopefully carry over to the tournament.

“Our home games, the last six in the playoffs were absolute sellouts, standing room only. And that’s just really helped create even more buzz about it.”

Mission’s first game is against KIJHL champion Kimberley Dynamiters Friday night.
