hopeHope mayor Wilfried Vicktor says before last fall’s election residents said they wanted affordable taxes and small increases.

He says he thinks they’ve been able to deliver with the proposed budget, which calls for a 2% increase.

“There’s going to be no cutbacks in service levels. It’s just a case of doing more with the same essentially. A 2% increase, I believe, most people will be very supportive of because most people recognize that zero is not a realistic tax rate to move the community ahead because we do have an ageing infrastructure”

The District is planning a couple of mayor infrastructure projects including upgrades to Othello road and the Silver Hope bridge.

If you’d like to tell council what you think of the budget you can come out to a public information session, 6:30 March 30th at the District hall.
