IMG_20150305_201325The United Way of the Fraser Valley held their annual Spirit Awards last night to recognize everyone who took part in this year’s workplace campaign, and we got some good news. $867,716 was raised during this years campaign. Director of Resource Development Lori Masse says the money allows them to help more people.

“Cyrus Centre in Abbotsford and Chilliwack are now partners. Abbotsford Hospice, Chilliwack Hospice and the John Howard Society are also on board. So, because this year and last year we’ve had very successful campaigns, we are able to invest more money in the community, and take on more partners to do that.  We’ve also doubled the amount of money we can use to help reduce homelessness and poverty and to make sure kids are ready for school.”

United Way has 28 community partner organizations in the valley. Brookside-Hershey Canada in Abbotsford won the award last night for running the best workplace campaign, getting massive buy in from their employees.

Masse gives kudos to Robin Marshall with Prospera Credit Union who chaired this campaign, as well as all the volunteers who helped make it possible, and most importantly, everyone who donated money to the cause.
