CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in after a targeted shooting this morning left one man dead.

RCMP say just before 9 a.m. they were called to the area of Lickman Road and Progress Way after receiving reports of shots fired near the Kal Tire in the area. When they got there, they found a man with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but died shortly after.

IHIT doesn’t believe this was a random hit. The victim’s name hasn’t been released yet.

The area surrounding the crime scene is expected to be cordoned off for a while.

“The investigation is fluid and there are many moving parts, any updates will not be provided by IHIT today. As facts become known, they will be made available if required,” says Corporal Meghan Foster in a statement.

The shooting took place shortly before a car was found on fire under the Vedder Canal Bridge, however, it’s unclear if the two incidents are linked.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the IHIT tipline at 1.877.551.IHIT (4448) or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.TIPS (8477.)
