KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAThe City of Chilliwack’s annual budget and long term financial plan is online for your viewing pleasure. There’s a modest 1.89% property tax increase being proposed for 2016, to cover things like inflation, and increased policing and fire protection. Mayor Sharon Gaetz says budget planning is a year round process that the community should absolutely be involved in.

“I do want to say that community engagement is not a one week, two week or three week thing.  We have our advisory committees that meet regularly, we take our council out into the communities to listen to people.  We get many letters and suggestions on ways to spend your (taxpayers) money on items that will benefit the entire community.”

If you want to know exactly how much money you’re spending on individual services, there’s a handy online engagement tool available this year where you can enter your property assessment and get those results.

There will also be a public hearing on the financial plan at city hall on February 16th at 7pm.
