cibc-run-logo-637x235October is breast cancer awareness month, and this Sunday is the annual CIBC Run for the Cure in Abbotsford.
Co-organizer Susan Johnston says it’s a cause that’s close to a lot of people.

“We see lots of survivors, lots of people dressed up in pink.  That’s why we do all this.  This year we’ve got about 65 survivors that will be attending our event on Sunday, and we’re thrilled to have them coming.”

She’s been helping organize this event for the last 10 years, and for her it was personal.

“I had a girlfriend who was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she and I used to do the walk all the time when we lived in Calgary.  Sadly, she passed away back in 1998.  I wanted to give back, so that’s why I got involved with the Run for the Cure.”

Last year they had over 1500 participants and raised $220,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
You can still register at Rotary Stadium, starting at 8 Sunday morning. It costs $40 to take part, and you can walk or run.

Once again, our own Scott and Lisa will be emceeing this year’s event.
