3 fishermen are OK after spending a night trapped on a sandbar in the Chehalis River. They were out yesterday fishing just south of the fish hatchery and when they went to head back to their vehicle, the water had risen and they couldn’t get over. Search and Rescue were able to pin down their coordinates this morning and went in and picked them up. It turns out they had built a healthy fire to keep warm overnight and all are said to be in good condition today.

I was one of the 3 and would like to thank Kent Mission / Chilliwack Search and Rescue and the RCMP for putting in the hours Monday night and the rescue in the morning. I am experienced in the back country and travel prepared and it was still close. Can’t stress enough how important being prepared with the right tools and knowledge is. Very happy to be home safe and dry. Thanks to all who were involved in getting us out of a rather sticky situation!
If you’re going to travel in the wilderness, even if only for a short while, be prepared to spend the night in the worst weather possible every single time you leave your vehicle… every time!
