Earlier this week, BC’s tanning ban for people under the age of 18 took affect.  And I’ll admit, I knew tanning was bad for you…but I didn’t know it could cause you to ACTUALLY catch on fire!

The maker of Banana Boat sunscreen is voluntarily recalling a few of its spray-on products in Canada and the U.S. following reports that people have caught on fire after applying the product and making contact with an open flame.

Four burn cases were reported in the U.S. and one in Canada.

In Canada, the company is yanking two types of continuous spray Banana Boat sun care products from store shelves countrywide — Banana Boat Ultra Defense SPF 60 Spray Sunscreen 180 ml and Banana Boat Sport Performance SPF 60 Spray Sunscreen 180 ml.

Consumers who purchased the products are being told not to use them. More information is available from the manufacturer at 1-800-SAFESUN.

In the meantime, I’m thinking I’m perfectly fine being pastie white for the rest of the year.
